04.04 - Interview Request Scripts (cont'd)

Everyone had the first few minutes of today's class to review their set 13 roots and prefixes. Then, we reviewed the plan for the day and moved into taking the set 13 roots and prefixes quiz which we corrected together when everyone had completed it.

I then took a few minutes to review how to use the class site and resources posted on it to figure out how to complete steps of the research process with the occupations paper.

Next, we reviewed our discussion from yesterday about interview request scripts. I returned scripts collected yesterday to people. We then looked at how the script could be used for an email or a phone conversation and how it could be used as is in it's formal state or made informal by simply removing the first sentence (see below).

Sample interview request script:

Hello,

My name is Caleb and I am a teacher at Lisbon High School in Lisbon, Maine. I am currently working on a project where I am researching barbers as a profession. As part of this project, I am looking to interview someone in the barbering occupation. I was wondering if you would be able to do an interview with me and share your experiences. The interview would be about ten questions long and take about 30 minutes. We can schedule this for whenever is convenient for you. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Caleb Collins

The script can be used for a phone call or face-to-face conversation (just don't say "Sincerely, [your name]" at the end). The script can also be used with someone you know and with whom you do not need to be formal (no need to say your name and that you are a high school student).

Everyone then had the rest of the period to type up revised versions of their interview request script and share these with me (caleb.collins.lhs@gmail.com) on Google Drive. After completing this, everyone was to continue working on section 2 of their occupations research project. These sections should be completed this week. We will work on completing section 3 next week.

Homework:

Use your interview request script to contact possible interview candidates for your occupations paper.

If you have not done so already, complete section two of the occupations paper and begin work on section 3.
